Majority accuses Asiedu Nketia of fueling parliamentary chaos
The Majority in Parliament has accused the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, of being the orchestrator behind recent disruptions in parliamentary proceedings.
Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, leveled these accusations in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM. He claimed that the NDC leadership, particularly Mr. Asiedu Nketia, has a history of interfering with parliamentary business.
“I disagree with the National Chairman of the NDC. If you recall, about two or three weeks ago, what happened in Parliament was not the fault of the Members of Parliament. It was due to the control of the [NDC] National Chairman because we have witnessed this on several occasions when we are trying to conduct business in Parliament,” said the Sefwi Akontombra MP.
Mr. Djornobuah’s comments followed a directive from Mr. Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, instructing NDC MPs to avoid any parliamentary recall. According to Mr. Nketia, such sessions would only serve “corrupt interests,” casting doubt on the motives behind the Speaker’s potential recall of Parliament.
In response, Mr. Djornobuah criticized the NDC Chairman’s directive as detrimental to the legislative process and urged Ghanaians to reject such sayings
“If the NDC National Chairman, who claims they are the next alternative to govern the country, is putting out such statements, I don’t think Ghanaians should accept this.
“We have a responsibility to work for Ghanaians, and if the Speaker, in his wisdom, recalls Members of Parliament to transact business for the nation, we on the Majority side will show up,” he affirmed.
