Zimbabweans mock paternity claim as man demands share of Mugabe’s estate
Zimbabweans have reacted with humor and skepticism to claims by a 47-year-old man, Tonderai Gabriel Mugabe, who alleges he is the secret son of the late former president Robert Mugabe. The man has approached the High Court, demanding a share of Mugabe’s estate.
Tonderai Gabriel Mugabe claims that the late president fathered him during a relationship with his late mother, Hilda Maeka. According to The Standard, he has sued Bona Mugabe, who is responsible for managing her father’s estate, and is requesting the reopening of the estate.
In his court application, he also seeks Robert Mugabe’s death certificate to obtain a birth certificate that officially identifies the late leader as his father.
The public has largely dismissed the claim with humor, noting that Tonderai bears no resemblance to Mugabe or his known children. Many social media users have suggested he take a DNA paternity test to substantiate his claims.
Questions have also been raised about the timing of his revelation, with critics wondering why he waited until after Mugabe’s death to assert his paternity. Others have speculated that financial difficulties may be behind his sudden move.
