“… where is my vote?” – Ruby Bediako raises concerns over Ghana’s electoral system

Ruby Bediako, wife of Nana Kwame Bediako, the Independent Presidential Candidate in Ghana’s 2024 general elections, has voiced concerns over the transparency of the country’s electoral process.

Her comments came in the wake of reports suggesting that her husband received only one vote at a polling station in the Korle Klottey constituency, where he and his family cast their ballots.

In a widely circulated video on X (formerly Twitter), Ruby Bediako expressed her disappointment, questioning the whereabouts of her vote. She stated, “It wasn’t just me. I think it was the whole family that went. I’m heartbroken because I think the system failed us because where is my vote? I don’t know where my vote went.”

Despite her concerns, Ruby emphasized that her family remains content with the overall electoral outcome. She called on Ghanaians to unite behind the President-elect, John Mahama, stating, “I think that the comment on social media it’s not just me. I think there’s a lot more people looking for his vote but we are all very happy. Ghana won and that’s the most important thing and let’s all celebrate our President elect.”

Nana Kwame Bediako, running on the ticket of the New Force, achieved a remarkable feat for a first-time presidential candidate, finishing third in the race with 84,478 votes.

John Mahama was officially declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election on December 9, 2024, securing 56.5% of the votes. His closest competitor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, garnered 41.6%. Results from nine constituencies remains pending.
