WAEC sets to investigate WASSCE 2024 malpractices
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has commenced thorough investigations into the various irregularities that marred the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). These irregularities, as highlighted by WAEC, encompass a range of malpractices involving candidates, supervisors, and invigilators during the recently concluded exams. For instance, instances were discovered where supervisors wrote answers on boards for candidates to copy, demonstrating a clear breach of examination integrity.
Additionally, there were reports of candidates and teachers smuggling mobile phones into examination halls, a blatant violation of exam regulations. Moreover, the illicit photocopying of answers and distributing it to candidates further underscored the extent of malpractice that occurred.
In response to these acts, WAEC has stated that appropriate measures will be taken against all examination officials and stakeholders found guilty in these acts of misconduct. This firm stance by WAEC aims to uphold the credibility and fairness of the examination process, ensuring that the integrity of the WASSCE is preserved.
Notably, a substantial number of candidates, totaling 460,611 individuals, participated in the examination, with a breakdown of 212,954 males and 247,657 females. This highlights the sheer magnitude of the WASSCE and the responsibility placed on examination bodies like WAEC to ensure a secure and transparent testing environment for all candidates.
