Shallipopi reflects on journey to fame and collaboration with Rema
Nigerian artist Shallipopi has opened up about the challenges he faced while trying to connect with prominent musicians before his rise to fame.
In a candid interview, Shallipopi revealed that many of his attempts to reach out to his favorite celebrities went unanswered, a common experience for many up-and-coming artists. Despite the lack of responses, he shared that he never took it to heart.
“They don’t know you,” he said. “It’s not personal – they have their own lives and work. If you’re unknown, it’s natural they won’t answer. But when you make it, that’s when people start entering your DMs.”
He highlighted his collaboration with singer Rema on the track Benin Boys as a perfect example of this dynamic. “For Benin Boys, I messaged Rema first, as the upcoming artist, while he was already established,” Shallipopi explained. “When my music started gaining attention, Rema finally noticed and responded, encouraging me to keep going. We eventually connected in the studio, and that’s how Benin Boys was created.”
Shallipopi’s journey serves as an inspiration for others in similar situations. His advice to fellow aspiring artists is to stay persistent, as recognition often comes with hard work and success.
