Prince David Osei apologizes after controversial remarks about Mahama

Actor Prince David Osei has faced intense backlash from National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters over comments interpreted as disrespectful toward President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

Known for his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and past criticisms of Mahama, Prince David Osei found himself at the center of controversy following a post he made shortly after Mahama was declared the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election.

In a now-deleted post intended to congratulate the President-elect, the actor wrote, “Congratulations to the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana. I will be president one day very soon, so showing honour to whom honour is due. Don’t get it twisted at all, guys. I am different, and there’s nothing to be ashamed of here.”

However, the post took a controversial turn when Prince responded to a commenter by calling him a “fool” and questioning why he couldn’t aspire to be President, suggesting that even a “drunkard” had been elected.

The remarks were widely perceived as an insult to Mahama, sparking outrage among Ghanaians, particularly NDC supporters, who accused the actor of making unprovoked attacks on their leader. The backlash prompted Prince to lock his social media accounts and delete the contentious post.

Amid the uproar, Prince issued a public apology to the NDC and its supporters. He wrote, “I deeply apologize if my words during the campaign offended anyone from the NDC. We were all focused on winning, but now let’s move forward and live in peace. God bless Ghana.”

While the apology has been acknowledged, many Ghanaians continue to debate the incident, with some questioning the sincerity of Prince’s remorse and others calling for unity and reconciliation in the aftermath of the election.
