Obofour rallies behind Skrewfaze’s legendary status amid backlash over an expressed will for a remix with Stonebwoy.
Veteran Hiplife musician Obofour has acknowledged his colleague Hiplife artiste, Skrewfaze’s claim of legendary status, a declaration made recently. This recognition came about when fans pointed out Stonebwoy’s latest hit, ‘Jejereje,’ urging Obofour to collaborate with Stonebwoy for a remix. The fans emphasized that the sound of the song bore resemblance to Skrewfaze’s earlier music style.
In response to the remix proposal, Skrewfaze emphasized the need to follow a certain protocol before jumping on the song. He asserted his legendary status in Ghana’s music industry through a TikTok post, stating, “I can’t just wake up and jump on the song just like that.” Skrewfaze highlighted his stature as a significant figure in the music scene, expecting due respect as an artiste. “You have to know I’m also a big boy, I’m a legend,” he explained. “I, also, respect myself as an artiste and I expect same. If he or his team gives me a call, why not? If they don’t call, we just enjoy the vibe [song].”
While commending Stonebwoy’s ‘Jejereje’ “The song is beautiful, this Jejereje. Big up Stonebwoy!,” Skrewfaze expressed willingness to collaborate if approached by Stonebwoy’s team. However, his self-proclaimed legendary status faced skepticism from some music enthusiasts on X, labeling him as a one-hit wonder.
In defense of Skrewfaze, UK-based Ghanaian music executive Obofuor Raphael, a veteran Hiplife musician, rebuked the critics, “Those bashing Skrewfaze on X because he sees himself as a legend are naturally “idioticals” without apology. This is a gentleman who has done more than 400 features and loads of them became a hit. He took the featuring spot baton from Samini in 2004 courtesy of Castro’s Boneshaker. Let’s respect that gentleman’s hardwork. Allow! Apart from everything, he has manners [more] than most of your favourite artists,” the Ruffy Records CEO said. Obofuor urged the detractors to acknowledge Skrewfaze’s hard work and professionalism, emphasizing his exemplary conduct in the industry.
