“…Liars cannot go to heaven” – Mahama replies Akufo-Addo on power crisis
Former President John Mahama has responded to claims made by President Akufo-Addo regarding Ghana’s inconsistent power supply, commonly known as ‘dumsor.’ The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate insists that the power crisis was resolved before he left office in 2017.
During a public address on Monday, November 25, President Akufo-Addo criticized Mahama’s leadership, describing it as plagued by persistent power outages. He also questioned the viability of the NDC’s proposed 24-Hour Economy policy.
“If he couldn’t maintain a stable 12-hour power supply when he was in office, how can he promise a 24-hour economy? Stop the lies,” the President remarked.
In response, Mr. Mahama firmly rejected the President’s assertion.
“I expect that when NPP is telling lies, they’ll leave it to the younger ones and the junior ones to do. But when the senior ones like Nana Akufo-Addo says that dumsor was not solved before we came, I heard him say that if we could not keep the lights on, how can we run 24-hour economy. In 2016 dumsor had been solved. Nobody’s lights went off in 2016, nobody had load shedding in 2016. That is on record,” he said.
Speaking during his Western Region tour on Tuesday, Mr. Mahama also referenced scripture to emphasize his point.
“You know, liars cannot go to heaven. And let me give you a Bible quotation, Proverbs Chapter 19:9. He said, those who bear false witness will not go unpunished and the liars will be destroyed,” he stated.
Mr. Mahama urged the President to refrain from spreading what he described as falsehoods, suggesting he should focus on spiritual preparation.
“If you lie, you will not go to heaven. At his age, he should be preparing his soul for heaven. So, stop lying,” he advised.
Earlier that day, the NDC candidate dismissed what he called NPP propaganda, assuring new Ghana Police Service recruits that they would not face dismissal if he is elected in December. He accused the NPP of dismissing dozens of police and military personnel recruited before the 2016 election after coming into power.
Mr. Mahama also pledged to enhance cocoa and oil production and revive the rail sector in the Western Region.
