Kudus faces additional suspension together with an £60,000 fine after the Tottenham clash
Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus has received an additional two-game suspension following his actions in West Ham United’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Toward the end of the match, Kudus engaged in a confrontation with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, reportedly kicking and slapping him, and later putting his hands on Pape Matar Sarr. Initially shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Madley, the incident was reviewed by VAR, which resulted in a direct red card for Kudus.
Kudus, who had earlier scored West Ham’s lone goal, will now serve an extended suspension and has been fined £60,000 following a review by the Football Association (FA). His initial three-game ban was set to end after the Everton game, but he will now also miss fixtures against Newcastle and Arsenal, returning after the international break.
In addition to Kudus’ suspension, West Ham United has been fined £30,000 for failing to control their players during the confrontation. The FA’s official statement explained, “It was alleged that the club failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper, provocative, and/or violent way around the 82nd minute. West Ham United admitted to this charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission subsequently fined the club £30,000.”
The FA also specified that Kudus admitted to charges of improper and violent conduct, which led to the additional two-game suspension and £60,000 fine. After missing previous matches due to his initial ban, Kudus is expected to return to West Ham’s lineup in their away game against Leicester City on December 3.
