Kudus faces a six-match ban after fiery clash in West Ham’s defeat to Tottenham
West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus is facing the possibility of a six-match ban following his involvement in several confrontations during the team’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The 23-year-old was sent off in the second half after an argument with Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven.
Tensions flared further when Kudus clashed heads with Richarlison and then escalated the situation by pushing Pape Matar Sarr in the face during a separate incident. Initially, referee Andrew Madley issued a yellow card, but after a VAR review, it was upgraded to a straight red card.
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean weighed in on SkySports, stating, “When you look at the footage, he could have been sent off for the first incident alone.” Dean further suggested that the Football Association (FA) could impose additional sanctions on Kudus for his behavior.
“Hopefully, with the second one, the FA will take retrospective action, so he’ll get penalized twice in my opinion for hitting two different players in the face on two occasions,” Dean added.
If the FA follows through with extended disciplinary measures, the Black Stars forward could be sidelined until December 2024, significantly impacting his availability for West Ham.
