John Mahama denies link to alleged attack on Asantehene’s convoy

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has emphasized that there is no strained relationship between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Manhyia Palace. Addressing speculations, the Asantehene noted that former President John Mahama’s recent visit to the palace should dispel any rumors of tension.

Speaking through a linguist during Mr. Mahama’s visit, which was part of his Ashanti Region tour, the Asantehene stated: “That the NDC is not on good terms with Manhyia. It is not so, and he has said it all.”

The revered monarch also urged vigilance during elections, reminding all that “elections are won at the polling stations.”

Meanwhile, John Mahama has refuted claims that he was linked to an attack on the convoy of the Asantehene in Techiman earlier this week. Addressing the issue during his visit, he dismissed a circulating video as fake and AI-generated, describing it as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image and that of the NDC.

“This is a calculated effort to damage our reputation. The video is fake, and we urge the public to disregard it,” Mahama asserted.

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the alleged attack on the Asantehene’s convoy, which reportedly occurred as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II returned from a funeral in Nkoranza in the Bono East Region.

According to initial police reports, some local youth in Techiman allegedly threw stones at buses within the convoy.

The police, in a statement, reaffirmed their commitment to uncovering the truth behind the incident and disclosed ongoing collaboration with the Manhyia Palace and stakeholders in Techiman.

“We encourage the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as we conduct our investigation,” the statement said.
