“I’ve been trying for years” – Kelvynboy opens up about unresolved rift with Stonebwoy.
Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeats star, Kelvynboy, has shared his efforts to mend his relationship with fellow musician Stonebwoy. In an interview with Andy Dosty on “Daybreak Hitz.” Kelvynboy revealed that he has attempted multiple times to reconcile with his former mentor.
“I’ve been trying for years. It is not the first thing I think about when I wake up from bed but when it comes to my issue with Stonebwoy, I wish we thrashed it out,” Kelvynboy said. Despite his efforts, he noted, “Any time we’ve tried I don’t think he’s ready. But me, I dey.”
The tension between the two artists dates back to 2019, when Stonebwoy ended his working relationship with Kelvynboy, who had been signed to Stonebwoy’s Burniton Music Group. A press release from the label explained that Kelvynboy’s contract, initially signed on January 22, 2018, was set to expire a year later. Although the label had an option to extend the contract for an additional four years, they chose not to proceed with the extension.
“The Company has considered the expired status of the Agreement as well as the conduct of Kelvyn Boy during its tenure and has decided not to trigger the Option. Consequently, the Company has decided to release Kelvyn Boy from the Agreement, and he has been duly notified of this decision,” the statement read. Burniton Music Group wished Kelvynboy success in his future endeavors.
Prior to their falling out, Kelvynboy had apologized to Stonebwoy, following claims that he had disrespected the dancehall artist. Since the split, Kelvynboy has found success on his own, releasing hit songs and albums that have gained international recognition. He recently dropped a new track titled “Man Down,” featuring Lasmid.
