It was my approach – Rev. Addo on Defeating Ursula Owusu-Ekuful as MP
Rev. Kweku Addo, the Member of Parliament-elect for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ablekuma West, has reflected on his victory in the December 2024 elections. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Rev. Addo explained that his triumph was not unexpected and credited it to his campaign strategy and the conduct of his opponent, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
According to Rev. Addo, the former Communications Minister lost her seat primarily due to public dissatisfaction with her demeanor and lack of connection with constituents. “People were thanking me for unseating her. From the feedback I received, many said she was proud and didn’t know how to relate to the people,” he stated.
Rev. Addo also highlighted his own efforts to engage with voters, which he believes gave him an advantage. “It was my approach and how I related to the people that helped me win,” he added.
The MP-elect also addressed incidents of unrest that occurred after the election. He condemned the ransacking of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful’s residence and emphasized that those responsible were not affiliated with the NDC. “Those who went to the assembly to attack the place were not members of our party. It is unfortunate that some people were involved in this incident. We should not tolerate such behaviour.”
He further urged his supporters to prioritize peace and report any disruptive activities. “Even those causing mayhem are not from our constituency. We must be our brother’s keeper and report anyone causing confusion to the police,” he advised.
Expressing gratitude to the people of Ablekuma West, Rev. Addo said, “I thank the people for believing in me and giving me this chance to serve them.”
In the December elections, Rev. Addo secured victory with 31,866 votes, while Ursula Owusu-Ekuful garnered 26,575 votes.
