“I can vouch for his capabilities and abilities…” – Akufo-Addo backs Bawumia to lead Ghana forward.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has voiced strong support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his preferred successor to lead Ghana. During a tour of the Ahafo Region on October 29, President Akufo-Addo emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s qualities, affirming his confidence in the vice president’s leadership abilities to advance Ghana’s growth and development.

Highlighting his vision for the nation’s future, President Akufo-Addo conveyed his desire for a leader who can continue the country’s progress. He pointed to Dr. Bawumia’s dedication and experience as essential attributes, contrasting them with those of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama. Reflecting on Mahama’s administration from 2012 to 2016, President Akufo-Addo argued that the period revealed critical shortcomings in leadership and economic management that he believes Ghana cannot afford to revisit.

Urging Ahafo residents to support Dr. Bawumia, President Akufo-Addo stressed the importance of voting in favor of continuity and growth. “As I am about to leave, I have one plea: as you all know, when every president is about to leave office, he cares about who is succeeding him,” he said. “My plea is that the only person who can continue the work I have done and move Ghana forward, to take Ghana to an advanced stage, is my Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

President Akufo-Addo expressed his trust in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership potential, stating, “I can vouch for his capabilities and his ability to lead the country, and I will not leave Ghana for someone who can’t do the job. God will not allow that to happen.”

Reflecting on Dr. Bawumia’s career, Akufo-Addo recalled bringing him into politics from his role as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana in 2008. Despite setbacks in the 2008 and 2012 elections, Akufo-Addo continued to stand by Dr. Bawumia, a decision he says was ultimately vindicated by their success in 2016. “God being so good, we won the 2016 election, and I have not seen any bad thing from him since I first met him,” he concluded.

As Ghana’s political landscape prepares for the next election, President Akufo-Addo’s endorsement reflects his belief that Dr. Bawumia represents a path toward stability and growth, urging citizens to rally behind the vice president for a brighter national future.
