Ghana to introduce licensing exams for mortuary workers
The Mortuary and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has announced a landmark policy requiring all mortuary workers in Ghana to pass licensing examinations before employment. This initiative, aimed at ensuring safety and standardization in the sector, marks a significant shift in the regulation of mortuary services.
According to Dr. Yaw Twerefour, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MoFFA, this policy aligns with the agency’s existing laws and regulations. Speaking at a conference in Accra, Dr. Twerefour underscored the importance of this measure and urged both mortuary workers and the general public to support its implementation.
“The licensing exams will be a significant step towards professionalizing the mortuary industry in Ghana,” Dr. Twerefour stated.
Currently, most mortuary workers acquire their skills through apprenticeships, leading to inconsistencies in quality and safety standards. With the introduction of licensing exams, MoFFA seeks to establish uniform standards, ensuring that all mortuary workers possess the required knowledge and skills to perform their roles safely and effectively.
Dr. Twerefour also encouraged the public to report any concerns regarding mortuary facilities to the MoFFA office, located within the Ministry of Health, assuring that such issues will be addressed promptly.
