EC confirms Mahama’s victory despite pending results from nine constituencies
John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been declared the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election, despite results from nine constituencies still pending. Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa made the announcement on December 9, 2024, clarifying that the delay in results from these constituencies will not alter the outcome.
Announcing the results, Jean Mensa explained the reason for the delay: “We have not been able to collate results from nine constituencies because our offices have been besieged by political party supporters, making it impossible to complete the collation process.”
John Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55%, while his main rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
The nine constituencies with outstanding results include Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum, Techiman South, Dome Kwabenya, Damongo, Ablekuma North, and Ahafo Ano-North. The total registered voters in these constituencies number 947,116.
Jean Mensa assured the public that the unreceived results will not affect the overall outcome of the elections. “Simply put, even if all the results from the nine constituencies were added to the candidates who placed second, it will not change the outcome of the elections,” she stated.
The Electoral Commission also confirmed that it would update its records once the results from the nine constituencies are finalized. However, Jean Mensa emphasized that the declared results clearly establish John Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential race
