EC announces corrected version of voters register ahead of 2024 general election.

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensa, emphasized during the recent IPAC meeting on October 1, that significant efforts have been made to enhance the accuracy of the voters’ register in preparation for the upcoming 2024 general elections. She highlighted that meticulous work has been undertaken to rectify any errors found in the register, ensuring a more precise and reliable electoral roll. “The discrepancies detected to date has been largely corrected and the register that was presented to parties in early August is very different from what we have today,” Jean Mensa stated.

Moreover, Mensa debunked claims suggesting any deliberate actions by the EC to disenfranchise voters, asserting the Commission’s commitment to upholding transparency and fairness in the electoral process. The IPAC meeting served as a platform for Political Parties to scrutinize the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) and raise any concerns or observations. Notably, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) raised alarms regarding alleged inconsistencies in the register, prompting discussions on the necessity of a forensic audit.

Despite the NDC’s petition for a forensic audit, the Commission urged patience, assuring that ongoing efforts to refine the register were underway. Mensa deemed the call for a forensic audit premature, given the recent corrections made to address detected errors. The EC’s proactive approach in addressing concerns and engaging with Political Parties underscores its commitment to ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process leading up to the 2024 general elections.
