Don’t expect defense if arrested – Ablakwa warns enraged NDC’s youth
North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called on enraged National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth to desist from attacking state institutions and taking over properties in the wake of the party’s electoral victory.
Ablakwa condemned the actions, describing them as lawless and unrepresentative of the peaceful nature of NDC’s leader, John Dramani Mahama. Speaking on TV3 on Tuesday, December 10, he said, “If you are arrested don’t expect any of us to come and defend you because what you have done, you don’t have our permission to do that.
“Our leader is a peaceful leader, and so you have to be law-abiding in celebration. Don’t take over state institutions.”
The lawmaker noted that this behavior has occurred during past elections and emphasized that it must stop.
His remarks came after videos surfaced showing NDC youth attempting to forcibly open the main gate of a state institution’s premises. The incidents occurred despite calls from NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi for moderation during victory celebrations.
Addressing the media on Monday, Gyamfi stressed the importance of restraint and responsibility, especially in light of reports of violence that have led to the tragic deaths of two NDC supporters in Akomadan.
“Exercise restraint in your celebration. We must show that we are responsible citizens. You can’t engage in vandalism, attacks, or looting state properties; it is against the law. Ours is a law-abiding party. We want you to live to see Mahama sworn into office,” Gyamfi stated.
He repeated the need for peaceful jubilations, urging supporters to avoid attacks on state institutions and focus on celebrating responsibly.
