Connecting Accra: Prez Akufo-Addo to commission flowerpot interchange to enhance urban commutes

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to commission the newly constructed Flowerpot Interchange today, November 19, 2024.

The project, which includes a flyover and motorway interchange, is designed to complement the recently completed underpass and provide an alternative route for North-South movement within the city.

Key features of the interchange include an 800-meter flyover that begins at the Palace Mall on Spintex Road and ends at Boundary Road in East Legon. Additional enhancements include ramps onto the Accra-Tema Motorway, upgrades to the Flowerpot roundabout approaches on Spintex Road, and improved access through the old tunnel connecting East Legon.

Once commissioned, the interchange is expected to significantly improve the lives of commuters traveling between the northern and southern sections of the Accra-Tema Motorway. It will also help reduce traffic congestion at the Flowerpot intersection on Spintex Road while providing a direct route between Accra East (including Burma Camp and nearby areas) and East Legon.
