30 more Anti-Galamsey protesters granted bail as Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s request denied again for the third time.

The Circuit Court has granted bail to 30 more anti-galamsey protesters, including prominent activist Raphael Williams and others such as Razak Suleman, Gerald Delim, Comrade Abubakar Sadeeq, Bilal Mohammed, Ebenezer Ankomanyi Okyere, Norgbedzi Kelvin, Priscilla Tobili, and Mohammed King Hassan. Each of the detainees was granted bail at GH₵20,000 with one guarantor. The bail also covers Tanko Nabong, known as Black Pyramid, alongside Kingsley Asiedu, Seth Coffie, Vera G. Louise, Nii Hammond, Dela Quarshie, Manuel Biney, Mathias Agbevi, and Ernest Acheampong.

Additional protesters granted bail include Dorcas Sharifa, Emmanuel Attah, Alhassan Hudu, Grace Asantewaa, Raymsa Jones, Isaac Agyapong, Shadrack Amoah, Otieku Alex, Raymond Boakye, Kallian Komashie, and Daniel Adjei, bringing the total to 52 protesters released on bail so far.

However, the convenor of the anti-galamsey protest, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has once again been denied bail. This marks the third time the Circuit Court has rejected his bail request, following previous refusals by both the Accra High Court and the Circuit Court.

Meanwhile, detainee Fanny Otoo, who has reportedly been ill since her arrest, was granted bail of GH₵20,000 with two guarantors after opposition from the Attorney General’s Department.

Despite progress in granting bail to other protesters, the State has filed an affidavit opposing the bail applications for an additional 20 detainees, claiming that they were not properly served, even though court documents indicate service on October 2. In response, the judge ordered that the protesters’ lawyers properly serve the State and adjourned the case to Wednesday, October 9.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor remains the only protester still in custody as the case continues, with another hearing set for October 14, 2024.
