Bobrisky arrested while attempting to flee Nigeria, investigation underway
Popular Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, was detained on Monday night at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) annex in Alagbon, Lagos. Bobrisky’s arrest followed an attempt to flee the country, as reported by Vanguard. According to the report, Bobrisky was apprehended by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) at around 1:30 a.m. while trying to cross the Seme Border.
Further reports suggest that Bobrisky may remain in detention through Tuesday night, pending an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his arrest. This detention allows detectives at the FCID to gather more information before determining the next steps.
Sources within the FCID confirmed Bobrisky’s arrival, noting that his case was brought to their attention late Monday night. “Yes, he was brought here yesterday night (Monday) by the NIS, where he spent the night. We are going to get a remand today,” said an official at the FCID.
Meanwhile, a statement from the FCID on Bobrisky’s detention is expected to be released soon to address public curiosity and clarify the situation.
Speaking on the matter, Kenneth Udo, a spokesman for the Nigerian Immigration Service, confirmed the arrest and offered additional details. He described Bobrisky as “a person of interest,” explaining that his attempt to leave the country raised concerns.
“In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, the NIS intercepted Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme border over an attempt to exit the country,” Udo explained.
He further added, “The service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.”
According to Udo, Bobrisky is currently undergoing interrogation, and once the investigation is completed, he will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.
“The service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the country’s borders,” Udo concluded, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to upholding security at Nigeria’s borders.
As the investigation continues, there is widespread interest in the reasons behind Bobrisky’s attempted departure and how the case will be handled moving forward.
