Akua Donkor Threatens Legal Action Against Mahama
At an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra on Tuesday, the presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, voiced her dissatisfaction with what she described as continuous derogatory comments regarding her qualifications to contest in the 2024 presidential election.
She singled out former President John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the key figure behind these remarks. According to her, Mahama has repeatedly questioned her suitability for the race, which she finds demeaning.
Speaking at the meeting, Donkor didn’t hold back her frustration, threatening legal action if Mahama does not stop making these comments. She stated that such remarks undermine her legitimate candidacy and disrespect the democratic process.
“I founded the party [GFP] in 2011 and got it registered in 2012. I formed it myself; I did not take members from any other party,” Donkor emphasized, defending her right to contest in the elections. “Anytime he [Mahama] speaks, he speaks against me. I followed the instructions of the EC and qualified to contest so I deserve to be here,” she lamented.
Akua Donkor has been a vocal figure in Ghana’s political landscape, and her grievances with Mahama are now raising questions about the state of political discourse ahead of the 2024 elections. Her threat to take legal action could escalate the matter, drawing further attention to the conduct of political rivals as the election approaches.
