Shatta Wale addresses legal dispute with former manager Bullgod
Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has addressed a lawsuit filed against him by his former manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod. Speaking in an exclusive interview with NY DJ on BTM Afrika, the “Already” hitmaker clarified that the legal action stems from his failure to honor an out-of-court settlement agreement reached almost a year ago.
Shatta Wale revealed that the settlement followed a defamation lawsuit filed by Bullgod in late 2022. According to him, the agreement involved a payment of GHC 100,000 to Bullgod and his legal team, but the payment is yet to be made.
When asked why the settlement has not been fulfilled, Shatta Wale explained that Bullgod was unavailable at the time his team attempted to make the payment. He further alleged that Bullgod’s decision to return to court appears to be driven by malice.
“There’s no different cause of action. Bulldog just wants to take his money. He wasn’t in Ghana when we wanted to make payment. You see Bulldog, if this is the house, this is the court, so he wakes up and goes to the court anytime. When a chicken clucks, he goes to court. When a taxi driver toots the horn, he goes to court because his house is just close to the court,” Shatta Wale remarked.
The legal tussle began in late 2022 when Bullgod sued Shatta Wale for defamation. The lawsuit followed Shatta Wale’s public threats to reveal alleged secrets regarding Bullgod’s connection to the death of the late artist manager Fennec Okyere, among other accusations.
In March 2023, the two parties agreed to settle the case out of court. During a court appearance on March 7, 2023, Bullgod’s lawyer, Justice Srem Sai, confirmed that an agreement had been reached. However, nearly a year later, Shatta Wale has not fulfilled his promise to pay the agreed amount.
Shatta Wale’s recent comments suggest lingering tensions between the two, with the artist implying that Bullgod’s frequent visit to the litigation may be motivated by personal revenge rather than genuine grievances.
