No honeymoon period for NDC if we win– Kwame Awuah Darko
Kwame Awuah Darko, a prominent figure within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to hold the party accountable from the outset if it wins the 2024 general elections. He emphasized the need for citizens to avoid granting the incoming government any “honeymoon period.”
Speaking on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem show with Nana Kwadwo Jantuah, Awuah Darko urged Ghanaians to apply unrelenting pressure on the next administration to deliver immediate results. He stated that such vigilance would compel the government to act decisively in tackling the nation’s challenges.
The former Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) expressed confidence in former President John Dramani Mahama’s readiness to govern effectively. He described Mahama as a leader who has learned from his past mistakes and is now prepared to leave a lasting legacy.
“This is a man who has reflected on his past, learnt valuable lessons, and is now ready to give his utmost best to make a positive impact,” Awuah Darko said. He portrayed Mahama as rejuvenated and reformed, set to address past shortcomings and lead with renewed determination.
Awuah Darko also criticized the current government’s handling of the economy, highlighting missed opportunities in agriculture and industrialization. He argued that prioritizing domestic production could have increased job creation and economic growth, especially in the agricultural sector. Drawing from his experience as a commercial rice farmer, he advocated for strategic investments in rice farming, which he believes could reduce reliance on imports and create sustainable employment.
“By prioritizing rice farming, we could have created more permanent jobs for the youth while reducing our dependence on imported rice,” he argued.
Awuah Darko concluded by urging Ghanaians to remain vigilant and actively demand better governance from any administration. He emphasized that sustained citizen engagement is key to ensuring accountability and achieving sustainable development.
His comments come as political debates intensify in Ghana ahead of the 2024 elections, with both the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) vying to present compelling visions for the nation’s future.
