Kuami Eugene credits church for his musical foundation and success
Kuami Eugene, the renowned highlife artist, has credited his formative years in the church for shaping his musical career. Reflecting on his journey, the musician revealed how his time in the church helped him master various instruments and laid the foundation for his artistic growth.
“The church made me. I learned everything I know from the church. When I was young, I knew I would become a great musician, so I told myself I should prepare well before reaching the top. I prepared a lot, so I could play every musical instrument I laid my hands on. No one taught me how to play the piano; I just started playing because I had been around it for a long time,” he shared with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.
In addition to the piano, Kuami disclosed his skill with instruments like the trumpet, drums, and guitar. Always striving to enhance his performances, he mentioned learning to execute a flip to add more style to his stage presence.
The Angela hitmaker also spoke about his exploration into music production, revealing that he pursued formal training to refine his skills. Kuami Eugene’s career began as a gospel artist under the Eugene Marfo Ministries, where he composed and performed gospel songs before gaining nationwide acclaim on the MTN Hitmaker platform.
Although he has transitioned from being a gospel artist, Kuami maintains strong ties to the church. He continues to collaborate with gospel musicians such as Joyce Blessing, Empress Gifty, and Obaapa Christy, writing and performing songs alongside them. Additionally, he often performs gospel songs at church events, underscoring his enduring connection to his spiritual roots.
