Digitalization and economy go hand in hand, Bawumia insists admist opposition critique
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), recently responded to critiques from the opposition that claim he is neglecting Ghana’s economic concerns in favor of his digitalization initiatives. In particular, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Dramani Mahama, have suggested that Bawumia’s focus on technology overlooks pressing economic issues.
Addressing these criticisms, Dr. Bawumia clarified that his commitment to digitalization is central to a comprehensive economic strategy aimed at tackling Ghana’s monetary challenges. He has consistently advocated for digitalization as a tool to drive economic transformation, emphasizing that digital solutions can address core financial and systemic issues.
One key aspect of Bawumia’s approach is the newly launched National Credit Scoring System, a digital tool designed to assess individuals’ creditworthiness based on digital data. This initiative forms part of his larger vision to improve access to financial services and foster economic inclusion.
Speaking at the system’s launch, Dr. Bawumia underscored that digitalization should not be viewed as separate from economic policy but rather as a holistic strategy to overcome the nation’s economic barriers. He pointed out that modernizing Ghana’s economy through digital solutions can address longstanding issues such as limited credit access, a lack of financial transparency, and the need for broader inclusion.
Bawumia further explained that digital transformation is not just about technological advancement; it’s about creating a fair and efficient economic ecosystem for all Ghanaians. He envisions a future where digital tools streamline transactions, making them faster, more reliable, and more accessible to every citizen, ultimately leveling the playing field and supporting growth across all sectors.
