Vice President speaks out as scandal rocks Equatorial Guinea’s Financial Investigation Agency
Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, has been arrested following allegations of recording over 400 sextapes involving the wives of prominent individuals in the country. The scandal surfaced during a fraud investigation into Engonga, aged 54, which led to an impromptu search of his home and office by ANIF officials. During the search, officials discovered numerous CDs that exposed Engonga’s alleged encounters with various married women.
The recordings reportedly feature high-profile individuals, including Engonga’s brother’s wife, his cousin, the sister of the President of Equatorial Guinea, the wife of the Director General of Police, and spouses of approximately 20 ministers.
In response to the scandal, Equatorial Guinea announced on Monday that it would immediately suspend all officials found to have engaged in sexual activities within the offices of the country’s ministries. This decision aligns with the government’s “zero tolerance” policy against actions that undermine public service integrity.
The Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, Nguema Mangue, addressed the issue on social media platform X, condemning the behavior as a serious breach of the Code of Conduct and Public Ethics Law. “Ethics and respect are fundamental in our Administration,” he wrote, adding that irresponsible actions that erode public trust would not be tolerated.
