Edem claims he deserved 2015 artiste of the year over Stonebwoy in VGMA
Ghanaian rapper Edem Goget’em recently took to social media platform X to express his belief that he should have won the Artiste of the Year title at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards. The award that year went to Stonebwoy, who accepted the honor by saying, “I believe that the other artistes are happy I won… Behold how tall we have grown… This is well deserved.”
Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and Edem each won three awards during the night, making them some of the biggest winners at the event. Edem’s song “Koene” received multiple nominations, and the remix of “The One” also earned him a spot in the Best Rapper category.
In his recent post, Edem hinted at feeling overlooked, comparing his experience to this year’s Ballon d’Or disappointment for Vinicius Jr. “Why #BallondOr come dey behave like the way VGMA take do me 2015 Artiste of the Year? This is a heinous crime!! A daylight robbery!! … Vinicius Jr is the REAL WINNER?” he wrote, suggesting that he believed he was the rightful winner of the top VGMA honor that year.
The 2015 nominees for the Artiste of the Year category included Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee, Sarkodie, and Samini, making it a competitive race for the award.
