Bawumia pledges to tackle youth unemployment with tech-driven job creation plan
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has renewed his commitment to addressing the critical issue of youth unemployment in Ghana. Speaking at a rally in Kpando, Volta Region, he pledged to create one million jobs if elected president, with a focus on equipping young Ghanaians with essential digital skills to thrive in the modern economy.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his plan for job creation extends beyond just those with higher education, ensuring inclusivity for all youth, regardless of their educational background. He outlined a comprehensive strategy designed to provide young people with the tools they need to compete in the global digital marketplace.
“The digital revolution offers immense opportunities for job creation,” Dr. Bawumia stated, noting that Ghana’s high unemployment rate can be significantly reduced by focusing on technology and innovation. He explained that empowering the youth with digital skills is a crucial step toward solving the unemployment crisis, enabling them to tap into global job markets and work remotely in fields such as technology, finance, and communications.
He further highlighted that the initiative aims to prepare Ghanaian youth for the demands of a tech-driven world, where skills in digital innovation are increasingly valuable. By offering training that is accessible to all, including those who may not have completed formal education, Dr. Bawumia believes that Ghana can create a more inclusive and dynamic workforce.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated that youth empowerment would be central to his policies, stressing the need to equip young people with the knowledge and tools required to take advantage of emerging opportunities. This focus on digital skills development is expected to not only create jobs but also strengthen the economy, positioning Ghana as a leader in the digital age.
“All the youth, we need jobs. I am going to give one million youths digital skills in Ghana. Everybody, even if you are a school dropout, we can give you digital skills. You will stay in Kpando and work in America, in Germany, in Japan, in the UK, and in the US. Work right from here with your digital skills,” Dr. Bawumia affirmed during his speech, drawing applause from the crowd.
The NPP flagbearer’s commitment to addressing youth unemployment comes at a time when the country is grappling with significant economic challenges. His emphasis on digital innovation reflects a broader shift toward leveraging technology to create sustainable jobs and drive economic growth. As the 2024 elections approach, Dr. Bawumia’s digital skills initiative is likely to resonate with young voters seeking opportunities for economic advancement.
This pledge to empower the youth, combined with a focus on technology and global market integration, forms a key part of Dr. Bawumia’s broader vision for Ghana’s future development.
