Afua Asantewaa plans second Guinness World Record singing marathon in Kumasi this December

Unsuccessful Guinness World Record breaker Afua Asantewaa, renowned for her recent marathon singing attempt, has announced plans to host another “singathon” in Kumasi this December. The event planner first gained national attention in December 2023 when she attempted to surpass the world record for the longest continuous singing by an individual, currently held by India’s Sunil Waghmare.

Despite her valiant effort, which lasted five days, Afua Asantewaa was disqualified before breaking the record. However, her passion and determination remain unshaken.

In an interview with Akoma FM’s Tony Best during the mid-morning show, Afua Asantewaa, who also serves as a tourism ambassador, revealed that she has already secured the necessary clearance from Guinness World Records to make another attempt. This time, she plans to stage the event in Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region.

“I can tell you on your show that, God willing in December, I will be hosting another singathon but this time I’m planning to do it in Kumasi,” she shared during the interview. “Myself and the team are doing a feasibility study to appreciate which part of the city will best suit the attempt. This will allow those in this enclave to make a feel of the show and also deepen my ambassadorial role.”

Reflecting on her previous attempt, Afua Asantewaa expressed that the initial setback has not deterred her from pursuing her dream. “The fact that I was not successful in my first attempt shouldn’t be a barrier to my quest of becoming a Guinness World record holder,” she affirmed.

She also mentioned plans to hold a press conference to officially launch the upcoming event. Asantewaa believes the singathon will not only offer her another shot at the prestigious world record but also further promote local tourism and inspire others to chase their dreams.

In her role as a tourism ambassador, she is eager to use this opportunity to shine a light on the cultural and musical heritage of Kumasi. With preparations underway, the city anticipates a spectacular event that will once again unite fans of music and challenge seekers alike.
