“Marriage is a bed of thorny roses”: Van Vicker celebrates 21st wedding anniversary
Renowned Ghanaian actor Van Vicker and his wife, Adjoa, are celebrating a significant milestone—their 21st wedding anniversary. In a heartfelt Instagram post on Wednesday, October 16, Van Vicker reflected on their enduring relationship, describing marriage as a “bed of thorny roses.”
In his candid and reflective message, Van Vicker expressed gratitude to God for the journey of their marriage, highlighting both the joys and challenges they have faced together. He described marriage as having “extremely lovely times and really trying moments” but emphasized the importance of commitment, love, and the desire to stay married.
“Today is my 21st wedding anniversary. I am grateful to God. Marriage is a bed of thorny roses,” he wrote. “It has extremely lovely times and really trying moments. In all moments, ‘THE WILL’ is key. Getting married to the ‘right’ person is critical (knowing the person substantially). Staying ‘in love’ is paramount (not just ‘loving’ your spouse).”
Van Vicker further shared his personal insights into what has sustained his marriage over the years, noting that the desire to remain together, in the absence of abuse, is vital. He explained that while the “thorns” of marriage can be challenging, they are outweighed by the remedies that help couples move forward each day.
“And finally for me, it’s ‘the desire’ to want to stay married (in the absence of abuse). The culminated effect of these 3 points may transcend those thorns in the roses. Prickly as they may be, however, the internal remedies are sufficient to let you move to the next day and the next and for years,” he added.
Despite describing marriage as “thorny,” Van Vicker remains optimistic, declaring that love is still a beautiful thing. He expressed no regrets about his decision to marry and stay married, praying for continued grace in what he calls a “beautiful struggle.”
“I have no regrets being married and staying married. I pray for Grace to continue this beautiful struggle. I am blessed to have my wife Adjoa Van Vicker by my side all these years,” he concluded.
Having known Adjoa for 30 years, Van Vicker celebrated their long-lasting bond and wished them both a happy anniversary, expressing how blessed he feels to have her by his side.
